We had one tree like this at our home yard when I was kid. Today I can find this kind of a tree at our neighbour yard but not at our own.

Oh, my goodness, they are so stunning. Is that what a conker is? I have always wondered. Are they the same as the chestnuts that are so yummy that you can roast?
I want some!!! Even for just the exquisite beauty and the richness of color.

Lovely shot as ever – fresh from the tree I suspect as they soon dry out and lose that lovely luster. No conkers around here either, which means I can’t teach the kids the ancient art of accidently whacking each other across the knuckles! It’s a shame the trees are dying off in such numbers as they were an important part of my childhood. I did get a few nice sweet chestnuts a few weeks back which roasted up a treat.
